The Beaches
| The beaches
in the area have a fine white sand that makes the water look great and reflects
so much light that it doesn't get hot to the touch even in the middle of the
day in full sun. You can walk on it
barefoot and never get hot-foot. The
beaches are nice and we did a shore dive from one, but you have to pay $6 - $10
to access some of them. Even after
you pay for that, you have to pay $6 for a beach chair if you sit in one.
Generally, we saved our pesos for beer and margaritas.

Debbie had a
birthday at the very tail end of the trip so we kinda celebrated it a couple of
times along the way. The first
Sunday, when we went out to dinner, Hector paid some musicians to sing happy
birthday to Debbie in Spanish and the traditional English "Happy birthday to
you". Hector told the singers
that Debbie's name was Deborah, which has a really nice sound to it in
Spanish. When they sang to Debbie,
she thought is sounded like Happy birthday
to you dear Rhoda instead of Deborah.

| On Isla de
Mujeres, some singers came up to us in a beach side cafe and sang the Mexican
song to Debbie. Hector tipped them
20 pesos (2 bucks or so) and they told him the going price was 50 pesos.
He paid, but was kind of surprised.
We saw this group several more times during our stay and it looked like
they surprised lots of folks with their prices.

Most of the
places, the attire on the beaches is like anywhere in the US. On Isla de Mujeres, we ran into one beach where there were a few
topless babes and a couple of bottomless dudes.
